“Portraits in Caregiving”

“Portraits in Caregiving” is a photo-documentary depicting varying emotions experienced by caregivers selflessly tending to their loved ones affected by chronic and disabling conditions including dementia, Alzheimer’s Disease, stroke, traumatic brain injury, and Parkinson’s disease. The series aims to honor the clients of Southern Caregiver Resource Center (SCRC) by capturing the essence of family and unconditional love through intimate and tender moments found in the everyday routine of caregiving.

Try and find resources like SCRC. Take advantage of what you can find to get through it because…  [caregiving is] a full time plus job. Whatever help you can get, whatever hand that’s going to give to you, take it, take it, take it.”

     -Wendy, caregiver

“[Photo & Studio’s] ability to build trust and capture heartfelt, candid moments with our caregivers—many of whom had never participated in a photo shoot—was remarkable. The project even attracted media attention from Veronica Guzman, News Anchor at Univision, helping us raise awareness for our mission throughout the greater San Diego area.”
